Milk thistle

Silybum Marianum - Fam. Compositeae

The seeds are harvested in the summer, then dried. The presence of silymarin (a blend of flavolignans) gifts milk thistle with an hepatoprotective action against various toxic agents.

Such action is pursued through the neutralization of free radicals with a resulting stabilization of the liver cells membrane.
