In terms of legislation, the “Organic farming” is a form of agriculture defined at EU level with the first Regulation 2092/91, later replaced by the Regulation. 834/07 and 889/08 and at the national level with the DM 18354/09.The word "organic" means a method of cultivation and breeding that admit only the use of natural substances, excluding the use of synthetic chemical substances like as fertilizers, herbicides and insecticides. This method of production requires a limit in the exploitation of natural resources like water, air and soil, using them in a reasonable way that ensures a long-lasting use. HOW TO IDENTIFY AN ORGANIC PRODUCT?According to the percentage of organic ingredients used in the organic product, the labeling and the advertising must to be follow specific rules. The current legislation has three groups: ✓ Organic > 95% (products that can be labeled and advertised as organic in EU). ✓ Organic > 70% (products whose content in organic ingredients is at least equal to 70% with the mention of the specific % in the label). ✓ Organic Conversion (products in which the raw materials come from a cultivation in conversion to organic farming at least one year before the harvest).
