Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis Miller) probably originated in the South of Africa, from where it was spread in other parts of the world. In order to differentiate it from the other over 250 existing species, which do not share the same properties, Aloe barbadensis is knows as Aloe vera.
Aloe grows spontaneously only in semi-arid tropical and subtropical areas and its use was at first limited to those regions.
With the end of the Second World War the global interest in this plant grew more and more, also since its use in Japan on people affected by radiation of the Hiroshima bomb.

For the first time the characteristic properties of Aloe will be employed using its dried leaves, without resorting to extracts and preparations which inevitably influence the purity of the product.
